SONATA TO THE MOUNTAINS

1st Movement - Homage and Gwawrio

The contour seeking walls of stone
Cut across the green of sparse nourishment.
The toil of granite men who pour
Their tormented souls onto the land.

The labouring,lambing sheep bleat
Enigmatic, painful, bland.

A foreigner in this land
Bruising the blade and crushing the stone
Insensitive under boated foot
Kicks out at feelings unexpressed
And drives through with shutters snapping.

But I walked out one morning
Careful of the dew,
And climbed above, along lost path.
Remains of mines and ancient cromlech
Led me upwards through to-day and yesterday
Into timeless ages.

Rivers raged and rippled down
And cooled my travelling mind.

2nd Movement - Form of Place
Move up in crescendo cacophony to heartbeat. Textures converging feeling rising upward. Cut, construct, and weave through to pinnacle. Bearings homed onto celebration of pointed height.
The silence - still - calm - quiet
Eternal pause - rest - silent - rock - interval.
All the valleys and the mountains rage in chorus
Ring out from activated peaks
In true glory
To celebrate the beauty of the mountains.

3rd Movement - Anguriol Chant
Gwenithfaen stone
Dafad gwyn
Stands alone
In flocks
On fridd
There is no grief
That comes from hyn
The clear water of the mountain pool Deep and sheer explains all.
